What Happens When It Rains During Your Family Photo Session?

A real story from an East Coast beach session that almost didn't happen

The forecast looked questionable. Dark clouds were rolling in over the East Coast beach where I was meeting the Johnson family for their sunset session. As a family photographer, I've learned that weather can be your biggest enemy—or your most unexpected creative partner.

What happened next turned into one of my favorite sessions of the year.

When the Skies Opened Up

We had exactly 13 minutes. That's how long we managed to capture pure magic before the rain hit. The wind was whipping through mom's hair, the soft overcast light was absolutely dreamy, and somehow we managed to get 50 stunning photos in those precious few minutes.

This intimate moment between mother and child? It happened in minute 11, right as the first raindrops started to fall. Sometimes the most beautiful photographs come from the most unexpected circumstances.

More photos from this family session is coming up, I loved how they are so true to the East Coast vibe!
Have a wonderful week,
Gunilla
