FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What can I expect when booking a session with Sugarlight Photography?

I want my clients to feel taken care of throughtout their experience with me so your photography journey starts with a consultation meeting in my office about two weeks before your photo session. We will go over what to wear, location, props (if any), all your questions, and how you would like to display your products in your home. Your photography session is up next, capturing your family in a fun and relaxed way, and creating a lovely variety of photographs of your family.

About two to three weeks after your photo session, it's time for your ordering appointment in my office. I will be there to help you choose your images and heirloom art that will preserve the unique memory of such a special and monumental time in your life.

A session with me is natural, relaxed and whimsical. When we meet for your photo session, we start with chatting with your children and making everyone comfortable. We never rush a session: time is allowed for snacks and cuddles.

The focus is always capturing connection and who you are as a family, in this moment.

How long is a session?

About one-and-a-half hours long. We don't rush when photographing children; we take time for snack and cuddles, if needed. Newborn sessions take longer, so expect about three to four hours for that.

What does my session fee include?

Your session fee includes your consultation meeting a few weeks prior to your session, the photo session itself, and the ordering appointment after your photo session.

Where will the photos be taken? Do you have a studio?

I specialize in photographing in natural light. All sessions are held outdoors with the exception of newborn sessions, which are almost always held within the comfort of your home.

What happens if it is raining on the day of the photo session?

If it rains, we will reschedule to the first available date for both of us.

What happens if I need to reschedule my session?

No worries, I understand life sometimes gets in the way of things. Please give me at least 24 hour’s notice and we will book your session for the next available date.

What should I wear?

Wear clothes that you feel comfortable in. We will be playing so it's important that you can move comfortably.

When it comes to colour, stay true to the colours you like. If you are more into earthy tones, like brown, beige, grey etc, that would be your colour of choice. If you love brigh pastel colours like orange, pink, turquoise, blue, then that would be your choice of colour. Also not being overly matchy-matchy within your family is important and this will be discussed in detail during your consultation meeting prior to your session.

Can my husband and children take part in my maternity session?

Absolutely! For a few images, we can include other family members for sure, but the focus will always be on you and your bump. If you want more photos of you and your family I would suggest a family session instead.

When is the best time for my newborn session?

Usually it's recommended to photograph newborns between five and 14-days-old, when they are mostly sleeping. However, since my photography style focuses on the connection between parents and their bundle of joy, we do not need to worry too much about that! So up until eight weeks is absolutely fine.

How can we schedule the date of the newborn session ahead of time?

I will tentatively pencil-in your newborn session date based on your estimated due date. When your baby makes his/her entrance, contact me as soon as you can and we will confirm your newborn session date.

Can we do portraits of the new baby and his/her older sibling(s)?

Absolutely, I LOVE sibling shots. I will try my best to make it a fun experience for the older sibling.

MY HUSBAND ISN'T VERY EXCTED ABOUT THE PHOTO SESSION AND ALWAYS FEELS AWKWARD DURING A PHOTO SESSION, HOW CAN I MAKE HIM FEEL COMFORTABLE?

There is no easy way to say this so I’ll just be honest. I generally Trick husbands/dads into compliance:). I find that most guys are pretty awkward sitting still and smiling at the camera. However, they are AWESOME at playing with their kids and generally loving on their families…so I try to keep the sessions as interactive and fun as possible! We don’t sit still for long. Most people are pleasantly surprised at how easy and fun a session can be! I really do believe that the experience of the photo shoot should be as great as the photos themselves. I want you to look back and remember how much fun we had!!

I have seen props on your blog post, can we use those?

Yes! Everything I have is yours to use for the session. I try and stay organic with my props, meaning no plastic and mostly homemade. I have a birch swing from Sweden (and yes I know there is wood here as well haha) racing car, confetti, angel wings, ribbon, backdrops etc. I even painted a tyre pink for a cute girly session ☺

How long after the session will it take for the products to be ready?

About two weeks after your session, your ordering appointment is up, where you will order your products. Allow 3-4 weeks for delivery of your products after your orders have been placed.

When do we make payment for the session fee?

Your session fee needs to be paid when you book your session.

What kind of products do you offer?

I take great pride in the high quality of my products. I offer canvases, prints and heirloom albums of the best quality often printed from professional leading labs outside Singapore.

If you have a question and it is not on here, feel free to contact me and I will respond promptly. Thank you!
